Rule of Law and Access to Justice
Law Hub’s Rule of Law and Access to Justice programme aims to strengthen Nigeria’s justice systems through evidence-based reforms, inclusive legal services, and human rights protection. We drive change through research, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and real-time performance monitoring to promote fair, efficient, and accountable justice delivery.
🔹 Administration of Criminal Justice
We work to promote the full implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 by identifying legislative gaps, conducting targeted research, advocating reforms, and supporting model guidelines. We engage justice sector stakeholders to ensure human rights-compliant and timely criminal justice processes.
🔹 Administration of Civil Justice
Law Hub supports modernization of civil justice through policy research, reform proposals, and legislative advocacy. Drawing from lessons under the ACJA, we develop recommendations for more accessible and efficient civil dispute resolution, including awareness workshops and implementation tracking.
🔹 Legislative Advocacy and Law Reform
We strengthen legislative processes by providing technical assistance to committees, supporting bill drafting, and training lawmakers. Our interventions are grounded in rigorous legal research and focus on the development and effective rollout of progressive legal frameworks.
🔹 Justice Monitoring and Feedback
We monitor key justice indicators—including case timelines, court backlogs, and pre-trial detention—to assess reform impact. Through justice performance dashboards, review meetings, and advocacy, we promote evidence-informed improvements in court infrastructure and services.
🔹 Access to Justice for Marginalised Groups
We ensure legal inclusion for women, children, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities through legal aid outreach, strategic litigation, and community partnerships. We also support the enforcement of human rights frameworks such as CEDAW and child protection laws.
🔹 Digital Rights and Data Protection
Recognising the growing importance of digital freedoms, we advocate for data privacy and freedom of expression online. This includes legal support in digital rights cases, policy drafting, and public education on data protection.
🔹 Human Rights Education and Legal Literacy
We equip citizens and legal professionals with the knowledge to protect and assert rights. Through “Know Your Rights” toolkits, community legal literacy sessions, school curriculum integration, and professional training, we foster a more rights-aware society.
