Environmental Justice and Climate Change
Law Hub’s Environmental Justice and Climate Change programme addresses environmental degradation, corporate accountability, and climate vulnerability by combining legal reform, grassroots empowerment, strategic litigation, and public engagement. Our goal is to promote sustainability, protect affected communities, and drive systemic change.
🔹 Policy Advocacy and Legal Reform
We strengthen environmental governance by identifying legislative gaps, drafting legal reform proposals, and advocating for alignment with global frameworks like the Paris Agreement. Our policy work includes position papers, technical engagement with lawmakers, and corporate accountability strategies.
🔹 Community Engagement and Capacity Building
We empower frontline communities through education, training, and local organising. This includes awareness campaigns, environmental education, support for grassroots monitoring, and strengthening community-led advocacy on sustainable resource management.
🔹 Public Awareness and Media Campaigns
To increase environmental literacy and civic action, we run targeted campaigns using traditional and digital media. Our messaging supports behavioural change, stakeholder pressure, and public dialogue on climate justice.
🔹 Environmental and Climate Litigation
Law Hub uses strategic litigation to enforce environmental regulations, secure compensation for affected communities, and promote corporate responsibility. We provide legal aid and support land rights and remediation claims, particularly in extractive zones.
🔹 Climate Resilience and Green Economy
We promote sustainable adaptation through renewable energy pilots, clean cooking initiatives, reforestation, and climate-smart agriculture. Our work supports policy advocacy for green jobs and inclusive, low-carbon economic transitions.
🔹 Environmental Impact Monitoring
We use technology, field assessments, and investigative journalism partnerships to track environmental harm. Regular reporting increases transparency and holds extractive and industrial actors accountable for compliance failures.
🔹 Climate Finance and Just Transition
Law Hub advocates for equitable access to climate finance and national green bond frameworks. We convene stakeholders to ensure inclusive and transparent funding for climate adaptation and sustainability initiatives.
🔹 Land Rights and Natural Resource Governance
We protect community land tenure through legal advocacy, litigation against unlawful dispossession, and the promotion of modernised land-use laws that prioritise equity and sustainability.
🔹 Environmental Rights as Fundamental Rights
We work to embed the right to a healthy environment in national constitutions and policy frameworks. Through public interest litigation and civic education, we promote recognition of environmental protection as a legal and human right.
